4 luni, 3 saptamini si 2 zile – 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days, directed by Cristian Mungiu, Romanian Palme d’Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival, is the first film in the series Tales from the Golden Age - a subjective history of communism in Romania told through its urban insights. The film is set in a single day and tells the story of two university roommates : Gabita illegally aborting an unwanted baby and the trials of her friend and accomplice Otilia.
It portrays the female misery and the cultural violence on women’s bodies from the female’s point of view but also the drab grimness of life (not only) in the former Communist country.
