Single by M, from the album New York • London • Paris • Munich,
Released 1979, Format 7″, 12″, Genre New Wave, Synthpop, Length 3:21,
Label MCA / EMI / Sire, Written and Produced by Robin Scott :

I was looking to make a fusion of various styles which somehow would summarize the last 25 years of pop music. It was a deliberate point I was trying to make. Whereas rock and roll had created a generation gap, disco was bringing people together on an enormous scale. That’s why I really wanted to make a simple, bland statement, which was, ‘All we’re talking about basically (is) pop music

Echo Beach pays tribute to the 30th anniversary of M’s – Pop Musik – TRACKLISTING:

1. Pop Muzik – PARALYZER Remix (12″ Version) 5:26
PARALYZER aka ARN SCHLÜRMANN is a Hamburg based producer and well-known remix artist (Residents, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Queen to name a few). His remix is quite close to the original and is transporting the track into 2009

2. Pop Muzik – DEVO Remix (12″ Version) 5:09
Are we not Men? We are Devo! Devo from Ohio/USA have been totally keen in doing a remix and their performance and remix skills are doing well. http://www.myspace.com/devo

3. Pop Muzik – STEFAN OBERMAIER Remix (12″ Version) 7:54
Stefan Obermaier is based in Vienna and is part of the Vienna Scientist circle. “I am still really inspired by the feeling of downbeat and dub that manifested itself a decade ago in this country really. Nevertheless, these are different times and I am not looking backwards. So I try to go deeper and further, that way, I can give the music a lot more of myself…”- and so, Stefan found his very own sound before he even knew. With tight remix productions for the Greek Timewarp Inc. label (”The Obsession Bug”) and Cologne based reggae cohort Razoof (”Spirituality”, released on the De-Phazz driven imprint Phazz-a-delic), Stefan showcased his remarkable abilities on an international level throughout the last months and outlined a unique vision in sound, easily fusing comfortable home listening pleasures and uplifting dancefloor vibrations.. http://www.myspace.com/stefanobermaier

4. Pop Muzik – INTERNATIONALLY TRAINED BUNNIES Remix (12″ Version) 6:22
Internationally Trained Bunnies aka Pete Rivera & Felix Wenzel are from Hamburg and describe there skills as Funk, Soul und House – so you know what kind of pop muzik you get: http://www.myspace.com/internationallytb

5. Pop Muzik – TODD TERJE Remix (12″ Version) 9:52
TODD TERJE from Oslo/Norway is one of the leading “Cosmic Disco” DJ´s and remixers of nowadays. He released tracks on Eskimo Rec., Playhouse, Hed Kandi, Fabric, Kitsune, Ministry of Sound and on other well reputated labels. Especially his remix of Jose Gonzalez created waves recently… http://www.myspace.com/toddterjemusic

SALZ were founded 1997 by Emanuel Geller, Axel Erbstoesser and Sebastian Becky in Cologne and they remixed Thomas Dolby, Solar Moon, Razoof and Swayzak just to name a few. SALZ are described as “high recommended dub tech-house with slight Basic Channel influence and a great 80’s appeal”. http://www.myspace.com/salzmusic

7. Pop Muzik – STACHY AKA STACY G (12″ Version) 6:35
Stachy aka Stacy G is a very advanced and groovy electronic producer and remixer who got famous as part of the German HipHopsters Fischmob beside his partner DJ Koze. His warm and spherical, clicking, shuffling and pulsating remix is perfect and destined for the more advanced dancefloor. He remixed Hildegard Knef, Pierre Henry and Phono amongst others

8. Pop Muzik – KARL MOESTL Remix (12″ Version) 7:12
“I am a dirty electric fusion”… is Karl’s credo in producing music and his DJ- and live performances. KARL MOESTL who is very well-known as the producer of the successful electronic-duo ‚ WALKNER.MÖSTL and one of the outstanding artists on g-stone (the Kruder & Dorfmeister label) has made his own way in life after some outstanding productions and remixes for:, Tosca, Senor Torpedo, Hot Pants Road Club, Trio Electrico, Vienna Scientists, Eric Fischer, DeepdiveCorp Wolfgang Muthspiel, and Cafe Drechsler…” His Pop Muzik remix is a Tech – House floor filler. http://www.myspace.com/karlmoestlmusic

9. Pop Muzik – DUB SPENCER & TRANCE HILL Remix 6:11
The Swiss Dub Space combo DUB SPENCER & TRANCE HILL from Zurich have created very high intense cover versions of Falco’s Jeanny and Metallica’s Enter Sandman. Now the have re-constructed POP MUZIK and they have created a dubby psychedelic reggae track…highly addictive. ” http://www.myspace.com/dubspencertrancehill

10. Pop Muzik – FROST & WAGNER Remix 4:09
In 2000 they started producing their own stuff, innovating and developing their reggae style music. Traces of other music genres like soul, jazz, hip hop, britpop have an impact on their music as well. Frost’s and Wagner’s productions are rich, with a strong emphasis on base sounds. Their music is pure and can by no means be reduced to reggae only. The have done productions for: G-Stone, Best Seven/Sonar Kollektiv, INFRACom!, Golden Delicious, Buback, Brownswood Recordings, as well as now the Pop Muzik remix with a heavy dubby flavour. http://www.myspace.com/frostundwagner

11. Pop Muzik – RIDDIM WIZE Remix 3:37
TRICKY CHRIS is well known as a producer for Elektrolux, Global Youth and Futuristic Dub Foundation. He was involved in remixes for Anne Clark, Shantel & Bucovina Club, Jammin Unit. His remix is a kind of ska orientated pop reggae uptempo version and a dance floor filler.

12. Pop Muzik – TORPEDO BOYz Remix (12″ Version) 4.50
Berlin based producer Torpedo Boyz won 2008 the American independent award for their production “Cum On Feel The Boyz” (Best Dance/Electronic album). They are also well known as a DJ team around the globe! The German playboy wrote once: “Just the sort of jet set cool – we love” and that’s exactly the feeling we have about their POP MUZIK remix. http://www.myspace.com/torpedoboyz

Grindhouse Ghosthouse TRAILER Fanedit Edit Retro Horror Remix
A Fanedit From RETRO HORROR REMIX!…

A fan edit is a version of a film modified by a viewer, that removes, reorders, or adds material in order to create a new interpretation of the film. This includes the removal of scenes or dialog, replacement of audio and/or visual elements, and adding material from sources such as deleted scenes or even other films. The trend became popular when an individual calling himself the “Phantom Editor” (later revealed as professional editor Mike J. Nichols) removed elements from George Lucas’ Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace that he felt detracted from the film, and made minor changes in languages and subtitles to give the film’s villains a more menacing tone.[1] The end result became known as The Phantom Edit, which achieved fame through distribution on VHS, DVD, and other media.

Miami Art Positions container courtyard this year has exploded with the actions and images of skate culture.
Ryan McGinness created artwork for the Collins Park welcome center incorporating the central containers, radio/DJ booth, dance floor, seating area, open air cinema, restaurant/bar, and a 70-foot elongated skate-ramp designed specially for Art Basel Miami Beach by architect Tom Postma.
Art Basel Miami Beach 2007 became a multimedia theater for over three evenings, with non-stop, non-repeating footage drawn from music videos and television shows, dance performances, abstract designs, and animations. From punk to hip-hop to techno featuring DJs from the local Miami scene, sounds and sources blended together, fused, overlapping, contaminated, and contaminating art.

The STRP Festival is one of the largest art & technology festivals in Europe, presenting a four-day multidisciplinary programme with more than 120 artworks, performances, and artists. The composition of the programme is based on the principle that STRP should be a low-threshold festival, geared to a large audience. The programme
centres on robotics, music, visuals, and interactive art, and comprises an exhibition, a visuals programme, a music programme, and a programme containing performances, workshops, and lectures.

Leading American media artist Ken Rinaldo, will premiere Our Daily Dread: the mechanization of our food production, which is expressed through an installation of robot arms cow’s ears, video images, and abattoir sounds. The Interactive Balloon Ballet by Christopher Bauder (GER) is an enormous work consists of a grid of balloons that, illuminated from the inside, float through space like atoms.

Robert Henke, better known as Monolake, composed the sound environment for this work. During a special performance, the balloons drift around in a graceful choreography. Italian Sonia Cillari presents an interactive theatrical work at the STRP festival. In her interactive performance ‘If you are close to me’, a dancer is standing on a floor full of sensors. By approaching her, the visitor influences an electromagnetic field around her that reveals itself in fabulous visuals and audio compositions. Cillari was awarded an Honourable Mention for this work during the prestigious Ars Electronica Festival in 2007. Also Otolab (IT) will performe a live audiovisual performance: Circo ipnotico

Another prize-winning work is Camera Lucida by Evelina Domnitch and Dimitri Gelfand (RUS/USA). In their ‘sonochemical observatory’, they lend sound an amazing visual dimension.
The visuals programme comprises video art/video clips, live cinema, animation, and documentaries. The live cinema performances are a once in a lifetime experience in which image and sound are in perfect harmony with one another, almost creating a new dimension. Feed by the Austrian Kurt Hentschläger, is a mind-blowing experience in which all senses seem to crash. Starting at a calm pace, the performance soon enough literally builds up steam, immersing the audience in a dark space full of smoke, stroboscopes, projections of androgynous creatures and ear-deafening sound. Feed was developed for ‘Theatre Biennial Venice 2005’.

During the Animation Festival on Sunday, George Pal (1908), who used to live in Eindhoven, and the animation software Blender take centre stage. Pal developed the stop motion animation technique that earned him worldwide acclaim as the founding father of contemporary animation. Pal was awarded two Oscars and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Blender is free open source software for 3D animation, creating animation films that quality-wise equals those of the large Hollywood studios. Elephants Dream, a film entirely made with Blender, premiered in 2006; it was worldwide the first animation film ever made with open source software, and in HD quality to boot.

The STRP Festival opens on 22 November with a concert by one of the world’s most celebrated electronic bands: The Chemical Brothers. The music programmes of Friday and Saturday start at 20.00 and continue until six o’clock in the morning.

The extensive music programme presents alongside big names also superb high-tech experiments in the field of electronic music. The performance by 5MM (DJ Akufen and VJ Coutu-Dumont), is a true audiovisual gem of deep soundscapes and alienating projections. A world apart from the French Aufgang, which consists of two grand pianos and electronics: Jeff Mills meets Keith Jarrett!

The full programme and all information can be found on www.strp.nl

Brian De Palma (1940, Newark, New Jersey) is an American film director, best known for directing the Al Pacino classic Scarface, and the Academy Award-winning film The Untouchables. Brian De Palma’s Redacted, a prizewinner in Venice and a polarizing selection at film festivals in Telluride, Toronto and New York opens today in New York and selected cities.

What De Palma has done is what is called a “mockumentary”, a fictional film done in a rage and fear documentary style. Not much a traditional plot, the film fictionalizes and dramatizes the Al-Mahmudiyah killings that took place outside Baghdad in March 2006, where five U.S. soldiers gang-raped and murdered a 14 year old girl, after first killing her parents and younger sister.

“Redacted” means to select or adapt (as by obscuring or removing sensitive information) for publication or release. Mr. De Palma’s premise, implicit in his choice of title and stated in many interviews and public pronouncements, is that the truth about Iraq has been edited and obscured, kept away from (not only) the American public.

Starting with the HD video diary of PFC Angel Salazar (Izzy Diaz), the view shifts soon to his platoon: Their mission is to guard the check points. The film ends with photos of the carnage in Iraq, just to get the point across the crime of supporting a country that in the last 24 months killed 2,000 Iraqis, and few were proven to be insurgents.

An unrivaled master of cinematic reality, De Palma’s film remixes raw images and videos culled from surveillance cameras, cellphones and Web sites. As he would like to say that the media environment is the real battlefield of contemporary, where everyone is, at least potentially, a fighter.

Written and directed by Brian De Palma; with: Izzy Diaz (Angel Salazar), Daniel Stewart Sherman (B. B. Rush), Patrick Carroll (Reno Flake), Mike Figueroa (Sgt. Jim Ross), Ty Jones (Master Sgt. Sweet), Rob Devaney (Lawyer McCoy), Kel O’Neill (Gabe Blix), Zahara Al Zubaidi (Farah) and Bridget Barkan (Judy McCoy). HDNet Films and Magnolia Pictures.
